The only thing that Sumatra PDF lacks are extract, conversion, add notes and digital signing tools(and other features) that other free PDF viewers have. Lastly, it is a great simple ecomic and ebook reader(other free PDF viewers can't do that). The interface is clean and easy to use, and the speed-dial page is really a great unique feature in Sumatra PDF viewer. You can custom view pages the way you want, zoom and set bookmarks. In addition Sumatra PDF has all of the options you'd expect from a PDF viewer. Some other free PDF viewers tend to be slow at displaying large images and freeze for awhile. Also its other strong point is the speed at which it can load and turn to each page. Sumatra PDF seems to have no problem with displaying the images the way I want it to.and that's the most important thing. Sometimes full page view is not possible. For example, if there are a mix of horizontal and vertical pages some viewers display the horizontal page with part of the next page which is vertical. Some of the free PDF viewers have some problems doing this. ![]() When I want to view a PDF I'd like the viewer to display pages properly. In addition, STDU sometimes misaligns notes on the staff, which makes the score hard to read. Curved lines appear jagged in STDU but are much smoother in Sumatra. STDU Viewer, which I've reviewed here as well, is good, but I've just discovered that its rendering of PDFs is inferior to that of Sumatra, especially in music scores. All of them surpass the bloated reader from Adobe. Also, the indexes in most of those help files will show up in the left-hand sidebar as bookmarks once you enable them.ģ) I've tried several other PDF readers. Opening a help file in Sumatra makes it much easier to read, because you can zoom it to a comfortable reading size. The conventional menu bar has been replaced by a button at the top left corner which brings up a cascading main menu.Ģ) As the SnapFiles editor mentioned, the app also supports the CHM format, which is used for help files. The latest version has added tab support, but the tab bar is superimposed on the titlebar, which frees up some vertical space. It has very simple and clean looking interface and is very easy to use.The simplicity and speed of Sumatra PDF has already been acknowledged here I like that too, but I just want to point out a few other things:ġ) This must be the cleanest looking PDF reader around. It has very minimum but necessary set of options and features that are generally required by the users. This PDF Reader is lightning fast unlike the other PDF readers that take some time to load. Memory (RAM), CPU and it does not put any amount of load on your system. Sumatra PDF Reader uses tiniest of resources i.e. It occupies very little space on your hard disk after installing. Sumatra PDF Reader has very tiny footprint for both as installer and portable version. You can carry it easily on your pendrive or usb flash drive and use it on a computer that does not have a PDF reader installed. There is an official portable version of Sumatra PDF available that is around 5 MB in size. Here are some of the reasons on why you should have Sumatra PDF Reader on your computer. ![]() Sumatra PDF reader is available only in 32-bit version.ĭownload Sumatra PDF Reader (Installer and Portable version – 32-bit) Advantages of Sumatra PDF Reader Sumatra PDF supports Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Also the Adobe PDF reader crashes a lot and can make you very frustrated with its behavior. It is very slow in working and consumes a lot if RAM and sometimes CPU that can make your computer slow. ![]() ![]() The download size of Adobe Reader ranges in 70 – 100 MB depending upon the version and after installing it size can grow to 200 MB or more on your hard disk. Bloatware is a term that is used for softwares that too many unnecessary features and consumes lot of your system resources that includes memory (RAM), Hard Disk space and CPU. It is so because it is a Bloatware and a total resource hog. The most common PDF Reader that people uses is Adobe PDF reader, which according to me is the worst PDF reader available.
